 Why does a ring (karat gold) turn my finger or fabric BLACK?

COSMETICS
Cosmetics that contain oxides (very fine abrasives) will rub away at the karat gold jewelry and cause the finger or fabric to turn black.

MEDICATION
Changes in body chemistry due to taking medication.

CHEMICALS
Found in swimming pools (chlorine) and hot tubs (bromine) and laundry products.
